A very Angry Birthday

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

Jacob wanted nothing more for his sixth birthday than to have an “Angry Birds” themed party. A little stumped at first, I was lucky to find a lot of great resources out there to create the perfectly themed party for my boy.

The highlight of the party was a giant playable angry birds game. I used a mix of green rubber balls (walmart), supplies from Oriental Trading, Felt Piggies, and a pieced together ladder ball game to build the structure. We used bean bags to toss at the Pigs. I used avery clear sticker paper to create birds to put on the bean bags.

Other activities included a craft, make your own angry bird. We played pin the angry bird on the pig, hunted for golden eggs, egg spoon race, pass the angry bird, and the world’s largest angry birds game on our projector. Though I’m sure it wasn’t the world’s largest, it was pretty big.

For decorations, I did print and cut out a lot of birds and pigs to hang on the wall. I did iron Angry Birds curtains, that I plan to put in Jake’s room now that the party is done. We created angry birds party hats, and went with a green table cloth theme. I had a lot of fun planning and putting together this party. Thanks to all my family and friends that helped out.

Happy Birthday Kiddo!

The Elaborate Workings of a Mess

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

I was feeding Jonas,  when Jake told me to come upstairs to his party… When I arrived ten minutes later the nursery was a complete wreck.

At first glance:

But let’s take a second glance:

There’s a story to every mess.

Jake the Builder

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

jakethebuilderOne of Jake’s biggest obsessions in life is building. He can never have enough tools. Whenever something accidentally breaks in our house, Jake is the first on scene to fix it with his assortment of hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.  It breaks my heart to tell him some things just can’t be fixed. (Can we fix it? NO we can’t just doesn’t fly with this guy). Luckily Jake is really eco-friendly you can hear him chanting…Reuse, Renew, Recycle…

He also believes that we can sell all the broken things in a garage sale.  It’s hard to be angry at a three year old who is just out to help his family make a profit. Especially in these economic times.

If you have a problem, If no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire, Jake. (For the sound effects alone)

Jake’s Newspaper Clipping

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

newspaperIt was a beautiful day yesterday so I decided to take Jake and Jonas to the “fire truck park”. We had a picnic lunch and Jake spent a good hour exploring all the equipment. It has been a rough winter for him not getting out to play.  We had a wonderful day together and were grateful for the pleasant break in  the winter season. There was a photographer from the local paper at the park and she got a few pictures of the kids playing.  She got a great shot of Jake, but I regretfully had to be in the background. (This sadly isn’t the first time I had a terrible picture in the paper  ..There’s the infamous waiting in line for fish dinner image ) I’ll be sure to take the boys back to this park in the spring. I also hear there are blueberry patches for the community to pick from in the woods surrounding the park’s lake.
